Event

MTA Nationals will be held April 12,13,14 - 2019, at the Gold Coast. NOW OVER 3 DAYS! In the same location as previous years. Tallebudgera.

NEW FORMAT - DIVISIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE AND OPEN. Classes available for registration include:

Adults:

  • A Class - OPEN - 16+ Fight Experience.
  • B Class 6-15 fights. INTERMEDIATE
  • C Class (0 - 5 fights) NOVICE

Masters: 40+ years plus is now available.

Juniors:

  • A Class - OPEN - 16+ Fight Experience.
  • B Class 6-15 fights. INTERMEDIATE
  • C Class (0 - 5 fights) NOVICE

It doesn't matter if you are a registered pro or amateur anywhere in Australia, only that you enter the class that meets your fight record, including ALL fights (like inter-club competitions and development days).

Australian Champion is only available for the OPEN division. The MTA may combine a division after discussion with trainers/or allow the B Division to fight for the Australian Championship depending on entry numbers. Trainers MUST be at the draw to have input or the answer is NO.

If there is not enough people in your division, a fighter (or their trainer) may elect to go up a weight divisions or up a class.

Everyone that enters is illegible to be selected for the National Team, as selection is not only base don who wins open, but the full extent of the selection policy. If a entrant has received a medal at IFMA Worlds previously, they may be invited to compete in the open class, even if they have less than the required fights.

This event will crown the MTA Australian Muaythai Champions for Adults and Juniors. It is a qualifier for the MTA Australian Team for International events including IFMA World Championships (Bangkok July 2019), Asian Games and Junior World Championships. All bouts are in accordance with MTA Rules. Event is open to Children who are 10 years, from 28 Sep 2019.

All ages for juniors are as at 28 Sep 2019. All adult ages are as at the event. If you are 17 at the event but 18 at Junior Worlds, you can still compete in Juniors but not go to Junior Worlds. Or you can elect to just enter Adults and be eligible for under 23 division at World Championships.

The MTA nationals are a tournament style event. All bouts are in accordance with MTA rules.

The event is the biggest tournament on the MTA calendar. It is a fantastic opportunity to compete with people from all over Australia and compete for who is the national Muaythai champion for your age and weight. Many competitors get more than one bout and vastly increase their competition experience by attending.

Weigh In - YOU MUST WEIGH IN, MIN - IN MUAYTHAI SHORTS (MALES), PLUS CROP TOP FOR WOMEN. This clothing is included in your weight.

Weight Divisions. All bouts are matched after the first weigh in. You are then required to weigh in on each day you are competing. At registration, you must be in the weight division you have entered. If you are outside the weight division, you will be moved into the weight division you actually weigh on registration - no allowances. If you fail to make weight, after the initial weigh in on a subsequent day, you are disqualified.

Clubs can only enter ONE member per class. If a class is combined the club can withdraw a fighter or they can fight HOWEVER, if two fighters from the same club compete - they must actually compete or the REF will disqualify BOTH fighters for not fighting.

PROOF OF AGE AND IDENTITY IS REQUIRED ON REGISTRATION AND WEIGH IN. PASSPORT, DRIVERS LICENSE OR BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

Registration is for the competition only. All other administration and logistics are at your our expense.

The tournament is for all MTA competitors. You will be matched with anyone in your division based on a random draw after the first weigh in.

Juniors - Age group's are based the age of the entrant as at 28 Sep 2019. Minimum age is 10 years as at 28 Sep 2019. Max age is 17 years as at 28 Sep 2019.

Seniors - You must be between 18 and 40 as at the date of the Adult World championships - June 1 2019.

Master - This division is OPEN and only for people 40+

Eligibility - MTA Nationals is open to members of MTA registered Clubs only. If you wish to enter - you must join an MTA club or get your club to join the MTA. The Club must be financial at the time of entry and the event.

Tournament Entry ENTRY is $75.

Registration Fee - Early bird special $75. (prior to 13th March 2019). Registration Closes - 5th April 2019. Registration Fee 13th March - 5th April is $90. A refund can be requested, for any person with no-one in their division at the conclusion of the event, but you must attend the event, and register, make weight and not turn down any offered or available matches.

Drug testing: The MTA is a member of WADA. Random entrants may be drug tested during the event. By entering you acknowledge and approve to be drug tested if requested. Refusing a drug test, is an immediate 2 year ban.

Medical Requirements. A medical for the event is required. No medical - no compete. It MUST be presented at registration with proof of age and identity. Medical can not be more than 6 months old.

Blood tests are required for anyone 16 and over, on the original form. Blood tests can not be more than 3 months old. Pregnancy deceleration is required for females who are 16 and over. State governments with a CSA - we accept their registration and medical but you must bring your book.

Trainers - MTA Head Instructors get one free entry. Teams with less than 5 entries get 2 trainer entries. Teams with more than 5 athletes get 4 trainer entries. Teams with 10 or more athletes get 5 trainer entries.

Weight Divisions - As per IFMA/MTA weight divisions. Your selection in the Australian Squad and consideration for the Australian Team will be based on the weight division you enter. If you make it in the Australian Team, you have to be able to compete at the world championships in the weight division you are selected for! World Championships are spread over many days and require you to weigh in on the day you compete.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have no one in your division, you can elect to go up a division or weight class. If you decline an opportunity to compete, this will effect any possible selection in an Australian Team, as walk over wins are NOT auto selection. If you go up and lose, your skill and experience will be considered.

Any movement from your entered division for weight or experience MUST be approved by either the parent or trainer. If your trainer or parent is unavailable to confirm this during the draw - the answer is NO.

Event Waiver - is required to be completed at registration.

Schedule:

Friday 12th April. DAY 1 - Registration and competition

  • Entrant registration and weigh in: At venue - 8:00am - 10:00am
  • Draw for day one will then be conducted. Posted online and hard copies at venue.
  • Draw will commence at 11:00am - Trainers are required to attend to confirm details / changes.
  • TRAINER MEETING - COMPULSORY: 11:00am at venue.
  • Form up for Opening Ceremony. 4:00pm.
  • Volunteer Meeting - 2:30pm.
  • Doors open at 3:00pm.
  • OPENING CEREMONY: 4:15pm. COMPULSORY FOR EVERYONE!!
  • Bouts commence: 5:00pm.

Saturday 13th April. DAY 2 - Competition

  • Weigh in 6.00 - 7.00am (for everyone competing today or tomorrow - Saturday and/or Sunday)
  • MTA AGM - 10:00am - 11:00am (ALL MTA Trainers to attend)
  • Trainer/Officials briefing - 11:30am (compulsory)
  • Doors open - 11:00am. Bouts commence 12:00pm
  • Draw for day 2 is done at the completion of Day 1. Published when completed.

Sunday 14th April. Finals and Closing Celebrations.

  • No weigh in!
  • Doors open - 9:00am
  • Trainer brief 9:30am. Bouts commence 10:00am
  • 2:00pm (TBC) - Closing Speech/Presentations, Australian Team Squad Meeting. 2:30pm.

Closing Event is a social end to the event and formal presentations.

Medal ceremonies will be conducted immediately after the finals bout. Junior Gold medalists will then proceed to the Australia Team desk to indicate if they would attend the World Championships if selected and fill in paper work.

Australian Team selection: Winning nationals is a selection event. Open Division Gold medal winners are in the squad but must fulfill other criteria before final selection. Juniors compete in one open division regardless of experience and must be able to meet the weight and age requirements for the world championships. Adult females compete in A-Class (ELITE) Division. Final team selection is at the discretion of the MTA and based on the Australian team selection policy. Australian Team selection requires athletes be competitive at the World Championships, that they, their trainer and their parents sign a code of conduct form and that they commit to the requirements of the team and coaching staff for the event.

Spectators:

  • Adults - Full 3 day Event - $50 or 1 day - $20 (per day)
  • Juniors 6 - 17 years - Full 3 day Event - $30 or 1 day $15 (per day)
  • Juniors 5 and under free. ID may be requested.

Common Questions.

What if I have no one in my weight division/class? You have 2 options. 1. Not compete 2. Enter in the weight division or class up, and compete. If you enter the weight division above, you are still considered for any national teams for the weight division you entered. If you win the weight division above you get selected in the Australian Team squad for the division you win but have choice.

What equipment do I fight in: All juniors compete in; head gear, gloves, chest guard, elbow guards, shin guards. Adults c class wear the same as juniors. B class and above has no chest guard.

What are the round times: Please refer to the rules for juniors! C Class Adults are 3 by 2 min. B and A Class are 3 by 3 minute.

What equipment do I need? You are required to have a mouth guard. Females above 14 are required to wear chest guards and groin guards. Males are required to wear a steel groin guard. Gloves, Chest guards, Head gear, elbow guards, shin guards, supplied.

What clothing do I fight in? Muaythai shorts are mandatory. Shorts must match the corner you are fighting from or be neutral. All fighters to compete in the event singlet. Females must fight in a crop top.

Wai Kru/Mongkong? All fighter MUST wear a Mongkong into the ring, ceil the ring and be prepared to compete. Due to strict time restrictions it is requested that Wai Kru only include ceiling the ring, except in the finals.

Corner person - Maximum of two corner people are allowed. They must stay in their chairs during the round and behave professionally or the fighter will be disqualified. Only one trainer is allowed in the ring in between rounds but not before the bout commences. Ensure you read MTA Code of Conduct.

Photos - There is no photos permitted of the weigh in at anytime. During the event - go nuts.

Female weigh in - All females will weigh under the supervision of a female official. No males will be allowed in the female weigh in tent.

Refund Policy: Refunds are only given on approval of a case by case basis. If you need to withdraw for medical reasons. you must submit a request and copy of a medical certificate stating you can not compete for medical reasons. If you do not get a bout at the event, you may be entitled to a refund, but not if you turn down a possible match or the circumstances are beyond the control of the MTA.
